Willie Hazel Joyner

Willie Hazel Joyner, 91, of Sycamore passed away December 20, 2022, at her residence.

Willie, affectionately known as “Meme” to her grandchildren, was born in Irwin County, on September 22, 1931, along with her late twin brother, William Henry Harrell. They were born to the late John Wiley and Martha Catherine (Smith) Harrell. Willie was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister. She worked in the lunchroom at the elementary school in Ashburn for several years. She loved to fish and working her yards. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.

Survivors include her son Henry (Pat) Lumsden, of Sycamore, GA and daughter Renee Lumsden, of Sycamore, GA. Six grandchildren Amanda (Ashley) Johnson, of St. Simons Island, GA, Jenny (Dennis) Kendrick, of Sycamore, GA, Rachel (Kyle) Montfort, of Sycamore, GA, Kelly (Sean) Cotten, of Salisbury, NC, Michael (Samantha) Weaver, of Cobb, GA, and Matthew Weaver, of Brookhaven, GA. Also surviving is her sister, Wilma Mashburn, of Thomaston, GA; seven Great-grandchildren Haley, Abigail, and Jarrett Kendrick, Davis and Mallory Montfort, Levi and Calvin Cotten; and a loving caregiver, Melody Ward.

Willie was preceded in death by her husbands, Doye Lumsden and Mayo Beard; her son, Roy Lumsden; five brothers, John Dewey Harrell, James Harrell, Albert Harrell, Foy Harrell, and John A. Harrell; and one sister, Nellie Harrell Taylor.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, December 22, 2022 at Bethel Baptist Church. Interment will be private. The family will greet friends from 10:00 AM until the hour of services at the church.
